NerdWallet ranked this South Bay community number one in their prestigious “Best ‘Burbs of Los Angeles” list for its highly educated, high-earning residents and extensive healthcare coverage based on U.S. census data.
According to the survey, it is among the fastest-growing LA suburbs where women make more than men, with a relatively small gender pay gap.
Even Hollywood is paying attention. Celebrity chefs, actors, and film executives are flocking to MB, and they’re not just staying at the plush Westdrift Hotel – they’re snapping up Cape Cod homes and other properties to experience the beach town lifestyle firsthand.
Not convinced? Here’s why you should pack your bags and turn a new leaf in this beach town.
Manhattan Beach is far removed from the mania and grime of Los Angeles City, but would you believe that it’s just 19 miles from Downtown LA? That makes it an excellent choice for those who want to experience the career opportunities and nightlife that LA is known for, but at the same time come home to a quiet and peaceful environment.
Located in the southwestern portion of Los Angeles County, the town is accessible via the B1 and B49 public buses, and the B and Q trains from Brighton Beach. You can also get to town by driving along the Pacific Coast Highway and San Diego Freeway.
The Los Angeles International Airport is roughly 3 miles away.
The atmosphere in MB is mostly laid-back and not as trend-conscious as the rest of LA County. Those who live here have a carefree, effortless vibe. The town is also family-oriented, with a child-friendly beach area and community events geared towards families with kids.
The community’s stunning seaside setting promotes outdoor recreation, exercise, and an overall active and health-conscious lifestyle. Go for a stroll along the beach, join yoga or spinning class, ride your bike along The Strand, and buy fresh produce from the farmers’ market.
MB boasts 2.1 square miles of gorgeous beachfront, which also happens to be one of the cleanest in California. There’s a picturesque 928-foot pier at the tip of Manhattan Beach Boulevard, the community’s main thoroughfare.
Residents also enjoy 48 acres’ worth of green spaces, not counting the stunning Manhattan Beach Parkway, which spans an additional 21 acres.
Those who live in MB can look forward to clear, comfortable, and arid summers that are perfect for walking along the beach and fishing at the pier. The winters are cool and partly cloudy. The best time to enjoy the beach is from mid-June to mid-October.
The Manhattan Beach Unified School District (MBUSD) serves K-12 students and offers plenty of opportunities for personal growth, from math contests and band concerts, to athletics and alumni breakfasts. The district invites guests speakers like skateboarder Mason Silva for inspiring talks and events.
